Joining Principle One was a big change for me; I had just completed four years in the Metropolitan Police Service after taking part in the Police Now Graduate Leadership programme. As a police officer I gained a wide range of experience, working in neighbourhood policing, championing local innovation projects, tackling deep rooted community issues and investigating serious and complex crimes.
Being a police officer was both incredibly challenging and rewarding, and gave me invaluable experience in stakeholder management in difficult situations. I wanted to build on my front-line experience; to develop skills to allow me to contribute to solutions for complex investigative and intelligence problems.
Since I joined P1, I have worked as a business analyst on a range of customer-facing projects, including a national mission critical capability for law enforcement and a new case management system for a leading policing charity.
My work has included business process mapping, requirements capture, development of user personae, scenarios and use cases. I have prepared presentations to support stakeholder engagement and delivered a range of formal and informal communications.
Learning these new skills has been as challenging as I hoped it would be; at times I have needed to assimilate a lot of information quickly. I have also rapidly learned how to use technologies that were new to me, such as Enterprise Architect. I have always been supported by Principle One’s more experienced team members in this, and really value P1’s collaborative and open working environment.
