Having done a 10-week internship with Principle One last year, I was delighted to be invited back this summer, before my final year at University of York studying Natural Sciences, specialising in Physics.
This year I was working with Josh on a series of connected data exploitation projects for TRAFFIC, an NGO who work on the global trade in wild animals and plants in the context of both biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
During my previous internship, I developed a keen interest in business analysis, and I have been able to develop these skills further this summer. Josh and I worked closely with TRAFFIC to articulate their requirements, model their processes, and envision where and how different solutions could fit in for them. We also engaged with a range of product suppliers, for example for natural language processing capability, and assessed a range of tools to gauge their usefulness for TRAFFIC.
It was very rewarding to work directly with a customer on a pressing challenge; this allowed us to use the skills we had been taught in a real-life scenario, supported by more experienced members of the P1 team.
Everyone in Principle One is friendly, helpful and approachable, so it has made working from home as easy and enjoyable as it can be. We have been fortunate enough to be able to travel to the office on occasion for team/client meetings and even a socially distanced picnic.
Principle One has been a great place to work for the last two summers, and I look forward to returning as a graduate next year.
