Principle One has developed a Proof of Concept Application Assistant Chatbot to provide guidance to applicants for communications data (CD). The Application Assistant was selected by the MPS following an open call for innovative approaches to improve standards around the CD application process.
We used an intuitive, question-based approach to walk investigators through the increasingly complex process of applying for CD. The tool uses a Chatbot interface to walk applicants through collating the information needed as part of an application, ensuring rapid approval in force and the provision of a standard format for the OCDA independent authorizing body. The tool offers explanations of terms that officers may not come across on a daily basis and guides the applicant around the appropriate use of communications data in an investigation.
